As part of the United Nations Development Programme's Support to the Establishment of the Afghan Legislature (SEAL) project and in cooperation with the National Assembly, a number of events in the provinces are being arranged to assist parliamentarians to reach out in their constituencies.
The first such event is taking place in Bamiyan on June 26-27 and will involve local community meetings with village elders, provincial council members and other community representatives.
A similar event is due to be held in Kunduz between June 27–29 with further events planned in Khost, Jalalabad and Takhar.
The events will play an important part in building the vital links that are needed between the fledgling parliament and voters.
The Afghan National Assembly began its summer recess on June 7 and will not reconvene for official business until Sunday July 23.
